REVIEWS

Morbidly Beautiful (***** 5/5) “I absolutely adore BOOK OF MONSTERS, and I imagine every fan of Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson will find something to love in this movie. BOOK OF MONSTERS is assured a spot in my regular horror movie watching rotation. Don’t sleep on this movie as I’m sure it will be a favorite of yours too.”

The Killer Spotlight (***** 4.5/5) Book of monsters is a Fantastic Love Letter to old school 80’s horror that blends into a modern theme with a stellar cast, Fun kills and INCREDIBLE Creatures that are designed and made with incredible practical effects. I am praying they continue the story with not only a sequel but maybe a TV show too. 4.5/5 - Arguably one of The Best Films of This years FrightFest"

Hey U Guys (**** 4/5) "A lovingly-made and naturally funny crowd-pleaser, it’s the sort of balls-to-the-wall low-rent genre filmmaking that’s kept the scene alive for so long, bathed in practical blood and guts and huge, physical puppets."

Live For Film (**** 4/5) "Book of Monsters is terrific fun and a total crowd pleaser. A practical FX paradise that is also jammed full of Spaced-style humour and huge fountains of blood, I hope we get more in the form of a sequel or a TV show very soon and will definitely be keeping an eye out for whatever Sparke gets up to next."

Nerdly (**** 4/5) "Combining a witty script and practical special effects, it works as an affectionate homage to ’80s creature features while retaining a refreshingly modern-day approach to its gender politics."

BEHIND THE SCENES

BOOK OF MONSTERS began life as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2017 with a unique twist – backers could to vote on six key elements of the movie including what form the monsters would take and how they killed their victims!

A proof of concept trailer was created for the Kickstarter campaign which promised a fun horror movie with buckets of gore and creepy monsters which have been brought to life with old-school practical effects and the participation of the audience.

The Kickstarter campaign raised £45,000 and became one of the 15 most funded horror movies on the crowdfunding platform at the time. Principal Photography began in August 2017 and took place at Prime Studios in Leeds, West Yorkshire over two weeks.

Epic Pictures Group acquired the worldwide rights to the film for their Dread label and released the film on Blu-ray, VOD and in select US cinemas in March 2019. The film was later released in the UK & Ireland in July 2019 and is also available in Germany, Japan & New Zealand on various platforms.
