You Choose the Monsters and the Gory Deaths in Horror Feature Film ‘Book of Monsters’

Six kickass women must fight off a horde of terrifying monsters at an 18th birthday party in ‘Book of Monsters’, the second horror feature film from Dark Rift Films.

Book of Monsters is a female lead, action packed monster movie drawing inspiration from the cult horror cinema of the 80s and 90s including Scream, Gremlins and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. With sick, gory practical creature effects and a dark comedic edge, the film will be a fun, bloody and sexy trip back to a time when making it through high school was truly life or death.

The film is seeking funding through Kickstarter and the trailer promises a unique opportunity for horror fans in which backers can decide on major story elements of the film. From choosing what Monsters will appear in the movie, to deciding a character’s gruesome death, the filmmakers want you to influence how the film is going to play out. In addition, everyone who pledges to the campaign gets a story credit on the end credits of the movie.

Sophie’s 18th birthday party becomes a bloodbath when six terrifying monsters descend upon her house, intent on devouring the party guests and killing anyone who tries to leave.

As her school friends are torn apart and eaten, Sophie must rally a band of misfits and take up arms to send their party crashers back to hell. In order to survive the night, Sophie will face her destiny; monsters are real – and she’s the only one who can stop them.”

Book of Monsters is funding on Kickstarter until the 3rd August and features a cast full of strong, kickass women including Lyndsey Craine, Michaela Longden, Lizzie Stanton, Anna Dawson and Steph Mossman. Also starring is horror legend Nicholas Vince as Jonas, famous for his roles as the Chatterer in Clive Barker’s Hellraiser & Hellbound: Hellaiser II as well as Kinski in Nightbreed.

This is the second feature film by director Stewart Sparke and writer Paul Butler, whose previous film ‘The Creature Below’ premiered at London Frightfest in 2016 and has since been released on DVD & VOD around the world.

3.5/5 Stars: "This independent horror effort serves up monsters, madness, and murder in a Lovecraftian creature feature"

A great review of The Creature Below from Joseph Perry for That's Not Current.

Independent British horror film The Creature Below combines the dire dread of Lovecraft with the excitement of creature features and even the manic terror of psycho-killer films. Director Stewart Sparke has crafted a nifty, taut shocker with a gripping story and enjoyable practical effects.

Eye For Film gives The Creature Below 4/5 Stars

"With solid technical work at all levels, The Creature Below is a triumph. Its final shot undermines its impact a little, but will have festival crowds cheering; there is the occasional weak supporting performance, but the main actors are uniformly impressive. Fewer than one in a hundred first features comes together this well. Sparke is going to have a real challenge on his hands to live up to it"

4/5 Stars - Monster Fun in ‘The Creature Below’ (Review)

"For anyone who gets a real kick out creature features, this is going to leave you satisfied. One could look to the film with a close analytical eye and find a powerful metaphor tucked into the folks of the film, but I preferred to let this one just take me to another realm where simple monsters exist and thrill. And by the way, the special effects alone are enough to steal the hearts of those fond of classic ‘80’s genre fare. Listen, just do yourself a favor and watch the movie!"
